Puerto Rico Pet Massacre

My mom sent me the link to this news item this morning. I was horrified by what I read and by the fact that this is the kind of story about us that makes the international news.

This story is not only about animal abuse, but it is also about abuse of the poor. And it makes me sad. I doubt very much that something like this could have been done to people in a more affluent community.

  1. i saw this via michelle at poefiti.. her is a link to the poem she wrote ... what a tragedy,, i cannot even imagine the horror of the people who's pets were euthanised right before their eyes,,, let alone the travesty committed against the animals themselves...

  2. Good Morning, Ingrid! I thought of you yesterday when I read that news article but, forgot to come by and let you know I wrote a poem about what happened. I am sorry for what happened there in your home country. But, my poem wasn't against you or your country just those particular persons involved with the incident. I am with you, the pets and the poor were left defenseless. I hope someone pays for this action because it was such a sad story. At the very least, the poor neighborhood should get some compensation for their losses. Maybe even better living conditions. Not being from there and truly understanding the situation though I highly doubt I am one to preach.

Thank you for coming by and reading my poem. I hope it done the situation justice.

Side note, I have a friend from Kentucky who now lives in Texas. Her name is Jackie Dorroh. Do you know her? Do you like it there? Jackie says it is beautiful.

Well, I've wrote a book. Have a nice day. Stop by my blog or e-mail me anytime.

    Michelle

PS. I am sorry for the news article shading your country.

  4. I read about this on MSN yesterday, and winced. You are right, it is also about abuse of poor people as well as pets. I hope the outcry of anger around the world, prevents something like this from ever happening again. I can't imagine how distraught I would be if my pet was taken and destroyed in this way. My Lord, what about the children? Sickening. I think the guy who authorized this should go over the bridge... assisted if necessary!

  5. What a horrifying story. It brought tears to my eyes. And you are so right that it is about poverty. This was a crime not just against the animals, but against the people who loved them -- and it would not have happened if those people were wealthy.
