Sunday Scribblings- Queen of the World?

This week's prompt is: "My first act as Queen/ King of the World will be..."

I am completely uninspired by this prompt. I don't want to be queen of the world. I don't want to live in a world that has a queen or king. I don't like the world we live in, it's far from perfect. It's downright horrible at times. But having a queen up in her ivory tower issuing orders is not going to fix things. I don't want to be a queen, reveling in my riches while millions live in subhuman conditions. I don't want to be a queen, holding fancy dinner parties and eating off the Royal China while there are people sick and starving all over the world. I don't want to parade in my carriage, all regal and superior while there are people stuck in poverty all their lives, kept there by the very structures that keep me up. I don't want to give addresses speaking against injustice in generic terms, turning a blind eye while my own people, and my friends and allies, rape and pillage everywhere they can.

No, thanks. I don't want to be queen. I am not interested.

  1. That's how I felt. I didn't even participate this week. I didn't much like the prompt.

  2. I guess I wasn't thinking in terms of 'old-timey' rulers but more along the lines of what we can do to make a better life for many. Like you, I couldn't imagine the pomp and circumstance of current rulers. Glad you posted, anyway!

  3. Sue, I could have been a better sport and played along. I think most people would use the prompt either humorously or in the way you did, thinking about fixing up what's gone wrong in the world. But I was too much of a realist today, and I am so put off by the concept of royals that I just could not bring myself to do it.

  4. I have felt that way about a prompt before. But, you were inspired - inspired to write your feelings. Anyway, who would SERIOUSLY reall and truly want to rule the world? What sane person, anyway. I think you did well.

  5. I just want to be spoiled with riches ..Oh yeah, and have a staff of people to do all of my work for me, like cleaning, cooking, shopping...ect.

so, um yeah, I think I do want to be a queen... only minus any responsibilities that are attached to that title.

  6. Being a queen for me means what we can do to make a difference. We don't actually have to be a Queen for that.

  7. Ingrid, I agree with you in that you lacked inspiration from this prompt this week. It took until Sunday afternoon to get something down. I wished that I could have had fun with it but I wound up lecturing...again

  9. Oooh, very interesting take on this prompt - seeing it thru your eyes, I'd have to agree, but I found myself wondering about what kinds of good things I could do with all that power. I am totally disgusted by the whole "rich and famous" bit though, so I'd have to be something very different to live with it. Maybe you could be the first queen to give it all away?!

  10. Sounds like you'd be a perfect Queen of the people, the one to bring the pomp down to earth ... excellent!
