Anger

What do I do with all this anger inside me?

It has been said to me that depression is anger turned inward. I am not so sure about that.

  1. Ingrid, have you thought about talking to someone who could help you navigate these angry feelings? I think it's not that unusual for women to have these strong emotions, especially as we move into these new life stages. I've had similar feelings and some of it is hormonal, some of it just the stresses of life. You probably read that study about how women in general the world over are unhappier than they used to be in previous generations. It's not easy being a parent, a spouse, an employee, a member of an extended family, etc... We have A LOT on our plate! (Personally, I think the parenting part is so much harder than the rest.) I hope you feel better soon.

  2. You know, I did read about that study and it made me think a lot.

I ended up going to a therapist yesterday afternoon. My employer has an employee assistance program through which I get a number of paid sessions, so I took advantage of that. The therapist gave me some good advice and suggested steps to take to recognize triggers and control my anger when arguing with my kid. We'll see if I am successful implementing them.

Thanks for the comment and the good wishes. It helps to know I am not the only one.
