Vocabulary

Someone called my daughter a "cracker" in school recently. I told her that she should have corrected them and said the proper term is a "spic." If you are going to be a bigot, don't be an idiot and choose the correct ethnic slur!

  1. Kids can be so cruel in school. I guess that girl learned it at home. I cannot imagine what would happen if Texas also approve the new law like Arizona did demanding ID to anyone who looks Hispanic. It is going to be a witch hunt!

  2. I have a hard time thinking such a law would pass here. It would be political suicide.

Kids are horrible to each other. They pick fights with other kids, then post the videos on YouTube. It's gross.

  3. It is funny how geography plays a part in this. In reading the post, the first thing that came to mind was that your daughter was a native Floridian. Any person born in Florida is called a cracker. The term has a history but the main thought is that it refers to a native. What does that mean where you are?

  4. I did not know that, Michelle. I imagine the girl that called my daughter a "cracker" was using it as a synonym to "whitey" or honky. Which is what is baffling, as we are clearly Latino.
