Sunday Scribblings- Money

This week's Sunday Scribblings prompt is "money."

I recently wrote about my happy place, for MPJ's group writing project. The Sunday Scribblings prompt got me thinking of my happy place again. I have decided that in my happy place money has a limited place, if it exists at all. I haven't figured out how to work that yet. My happy place is very retro in that there are lots of small agricultural cooperatives and artisans, and corporations still exist, but are also organized on a coop model. So there will be a lot of bartering going on.

  1. I want to evolve to the place where you are so badly!

Right now, money factors in to so many places in my life and I hate that.

  2. Ah, Maria, but my happy place is an illusion. What I would give for it to be real!

In real life, money is necessary, unfortunately. There are bills to be paid if one wants a roof over one's head and the basic utilities. There are cars and medical bills and mouths to feed.

At present I have a good salary, so I am not suffering and thus can indulge in my fantasy happy place where bartering is preferred. But the cost of living these days is high, and I am one workplace reduction away from being destitute.

In the past, back home in Puerto Rico, I have lived on $300 a week net of taxes (not enough for living in the mid to late nineties on the island), and that was at a good job. For a brief time I was unemployed and on welfare. So every day I am thankful that I am not back in that position.
